Eilean Donan Castle Pictures

Eilean Donan Castle Pictures are featured on many calendars and greeting cards. The castle looks spectacular in its natural setting in the middle of 3 lochs , surrounded by mountains.The castle was built in the 13th century . Eilean Donan means small island of Donan , a religious figure . In the 18th century the castle was bombarded by 3 English frigates and almost totally destroyed . In 1914 rebuilding began .   Eilean Donan Castle is my favourite castle in Scotland and it can be photographed from 3 different viewpoints. As a photographer , I advise visitors to go there in late summer for the best results. There are over 1000 castles in Scotland , some you can visit and some you can stay in , including Dalhousie Castle and Melville Castle
